Duration: 58 minutes Funded by Arts Council of England. Toured at 6 venues in 2006/07.
Culture-Cross is an artist led multi and split screen video and sound installation exploring cross-cultural art work in England.
Culture-Cross explores the challenges and possibilities in creating cross-cultural artwork in England and beyond by involving eight professional artists from eight different cultural backgrounds. The installation is also a subjective way of looking at the problematic issue of multiculturalism.
The installation was based on three experiments, each one using three artists experimenting with each other using their own music, dance and vocal skills. Jas used water and waves in the installation to represent the concept of advancing and retreating – and digitally manipulated this imagery within certain parts of the film. The screen was also divided into different parts as we all contemplate and perceive things from different points of view.
Culture-Cross is still available for touring. For more information visit www.culture-cross.co.uk
“Innovative way to approach questions about cultural identity. Very in depth exploration of the subject”. Tom Freshwater, Former Head of Visual Arts South Hill Park.
